The trend of faceless YouTube channels is growing. Not just on YouTube, but on TikTok, Instagram, etc., people are creating channels where they never have to show their face or even speak.
And the crazy part is, they are getting thousands or even millions of views. Despite not having a popular Influencer face or persona to create a brand, these channels are gaining success.
What Is a Faceless YouTube Channel?
Pretty much what it sounds like: a channel where the audience never sees the creator’s face. Like the Land of Oz, the Wizard is running everything behind the curtain. Content usually uses animation, stock footage, AI-generated videos, narration, and text. Some of it is real, some of it AI-generated. Here is a video from my faceless YouTube channel.
Why I Went Faceless
I already have a channel called OzzyAwesome, which I have had since 2009. It started as a place to make funny skits and videos about my life in Japan.
Then it became a travel channel where I showcased all the cool countries and places I visited throughout the years.
After COVID and moving to Canada, it became more of a life vlog where I talk about life in Canada, living with my wife, dog, and all the stuff that happens around me.
It has become more of a life diary.
Although this is great as I can relive my past adventures whenever I want, it’s no longer a popular channel. Views are almost non-existent, comments are sparse, and despite being monetized, it hardly makes me enough for even a fast food meal.
I launched Quickapedia, a faceless channel, because:
I could create content more quickly and efficiently
I didn’t have to worry about lighting, microphone, or looking good on camera
I could use AI features and stock footage to make editing and narration automated
It was time to create a channel that didn’t focus on me.
Instead, I tried to make a channel that would appeal to a mass crowd and hopefully make me some money as well.
Pros of Having a Faceless YouTube Channel
Privacy: You can keep your identity private and still grow an audience.
Scalability: With tools like AI voiceovers, stock assets, and automation, you can produce content faster and more consistently.
Lower Barrier to Entry: You don't need an amazing camera, lighting, or even on-camera presence talent.
More Focus on Content: It forces you to focus on the value and clarity of your content, which can actually make your videos more engaging and informative.
Cons of a Faceless YouTube Channel
Harder to Build a Personal Brand: Viewers often connect more deeply with a face and personality. Without that, growing a loyal fan base can take longer.
Voiceover Limitations: Using AI voices can save time, but they may come off as robotic even when your voice is cloned.
Limited Format Variety: Some content types (like vlogs, reaction videos, or tutorials) don’t work well without showing your face.
Quickapedia Goals
Quickapedia is built on providing educational information in bite-sized videos. Each episode covers a single topic, from the world’s most obese countries to everything about Panda Bears.
I use simple, easy-to-understand English, with an AI-generated clone voice of myself. Using an AI video editor called inVideo, I provide a topic and script.
The program then adds stock footage, narration, and subtitles for me in a nicely packaged video. I create the thumbnail using Canva and upload it to YouTube.
I hope that people will enjoy the mini-lessons about the world and learn something new. Bringing together education, information, entertainment, and facts.
Since this is a new channel and I have very few subscribers, it can't be monetized. But the hope is that once I hit that 1000-subscriber mark, I will be able to monetize and grow my channel.
Should You Start a Faceless Channel?
If you are looking to make content but are not ready to show yourself to the world, then yes, a faceless channel might be for you.
With the right niche, audio and video tools, and creativity, your channel could grow quickly and become a high-revenue, mass audience channel.
There are many websites, apps, and software to help you go faceless. If you do want to try the one I use, inVideo, the link I provide is an affiliate link, which gives you 50 free minutes of AI generation if you are interested.
And if you’re curious how it looks in action, check out my channel: Quickapedia on YouTube.
